Turkish Airlines has unveiled plans for a major infrastructure investment of more than $2.3 billion to build the world’s largest air cargo terminal along with an integrated in-flight catering facility, representing a significant boost to its logistics and service operations.
The project is expected to be developed at Istanbul Airport, the airline’s main hub, and is designed to increase cargo handling capacity while reinforcing Istanbul’s role as a global aviation and logistics crossroads linking Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The cargo terminal will be capable of processing several million tonnes of freight each year, supporting long-term growth for Turkish Cargo, which already transports close to two million tonnes annually.
In parallel, the new catering facility will introduce a next-generation, integrated system aimed at improving efficiency, quality control, and scalability for the airline’s vast passenger network. Turkish Airlines estimates the project will generate around 26,000 jobs across cargo, catering, logistics, and related industries, positioning the investment as both a strategic aviation move and a broader economic development initiative for Türkiye.
